It’s time for Tuesday Tales!
Welcome back! This week is our picture prompt week and all posts must be 300 words or under and reflect the chosen image. Today we have a snippet from Rebound, the first book in my upcoming MM hockey Overtime trilogy.
In this snippet, Vic and his son are spending some time by Cayuga Lake.
This story may have gay erotic scenes, strong social issues addressed and mature language. If those things offend now is the time to move onto another Tuesday Tales blog. Thanks for stopping by!
“Dad?” he asked when we’d found a bench and were sipping on some juice boxes I’d brought for the excursion. “Which one is the boy duck and which one is the girl?” He used his toes to point at the pair of Mallards swimming past.
I swallowed the sip of sickeningly sweet apple juice. “The boy is the one with the bright greenish-blue head. The girl is the drab brown one.”
He lowered his toes, which were also done up with scarlet nail polish. “What’s drab?”
“It means she doesn’t have bright colors.”
“Why?” He glanced at me. I reached over to tuck a wild strand of red behind his tiny ear.
“Well, female birds are usually dull brown so that when they sit on their nests predators can’t see them as easily,” I explained then wadded up my empty box and shoved it back into Jack’s little bag.
“I’m sad for girl ducks because colors are pretty!” He leaped to his feet and stood on the bench. “Why is people boys dab and people girls is colors?” The lad took my face between his sticky hands and stared into my soul.
“Oh, well, I guess…I don’t know. I think people boys and people girls should be colorful if they want. Kind of like how boys can kiss boys and girls can kiss girls.”
“And boys kiss girls like Mom and Brooks.” He moved my head up and down, giggles finally escaping. I gathered him up with one arm, got to my feet, grabbed his Spidey bag and tossed him to my shoulder. “I want to be a color girl boy forever!”
His fingers balled up little fistfuls of my hair so tightly my eyes began to water.
“I want that for you too buddy,” I replied as we left the ducks behind. “You ready to go see Pop-Pop at the diner?”
“Can I paint his toes?”
“I doubt it. Pop-Pop isn’t much into pedicures.”
“Can I paint yours?”
“Any time my little man.”
Thanks so much for dropping by!

What a sweet father/son scene!! Vic is mellowing. I wish all fathers and sons could communicate and support each other like that. Great scene.
