It’s time for Tuesday Tales!
Today we have a snippet from ‘Fade In – A Tales of Bryant Romance’, one of my two current MM romance projects. Our word prompt today is “Unhappy” and in this week’s snippet Devon and Louis, Caiden’s housekeeper and cook, have a bit of a heart-to-heart about oatmeal and important topics.
This story may have gay erotic scenes, strong social issues addressed and mature language. If those things offend now is the time to move onto another Tuesday Tales blog. Thanks for stopping by!
I gave the skinny young woman with the green hair a chipper salute then bolted out into city heat that nearly stole your breath. July had arrived and it was unhappy. Humidity hung in low pockets of moisture at the tops of the skyscrapers. Waves of heat undulated off the black top, the road shimmer adding to the cloak of yuck settling over the city. I bet a ton of urbanites beat it out of Manhattan over the weekend to celebrate the 4th in a cool little cabin in the Catskills. Swimming in a lake sounded amazing right about now.
I made a beeline to Caiden’s place. Louis let me in, his usual sunny disposition dampened. Cool air blew over me, making my overheated skin tingle pleasantly.
“Hello,” he said then padded off. I hurried to catch up with him.
“Look, about the oatmeal…”
“No, no, I understand. I no never make oatmeal again.”
“Honestly, it wasn’t the oatmeal. I love oatmeal!” He stopped walking to give me a look of disbelief. “I swear I do. My mom made it all the time. I just…I was upset.” He folded his arms over his thin chest then popped a hip out. “See, it had been a really crazy night, I was tired and Caiden and I we’d…well, we’d kind of had this mind blowing sex.” I used my hands to show him just how blown my mind had been. “Poof,” I said as my fingers blew open and away from my temples. “After that I had this feeling…” I paused to choose the right word.
“Ah, so you fall in loves and then run away because big feeling scares you.”
I gaped for a second. “Uhm, yeah, sort of.”

I love how Louis finds the right words for what Caiden’s lover is feeling. And how he is embarrassed and at a loss for words at the same time.
