“Sorry. I drifted. Long day in the pool then with the physical therapist.” I rubbed at my face, my fingers finding thick red stubble. I’d not shaved for a few days. Ever since Cooper had offhandedly mentioned he would like to someday kiss a man with a beard to see if it tickled. Give me a week or two and I’d have enough whiskers to show him how ticklish it could be. We kissed a lot. Never anything too wild but yeah, his lips were soft as pillows and usually tasted of something sweet he’d just—
“… think they’d bring him.”
I blinked back to the man talking to me. “Sorry, did it again.”
“It’s cool. You’re working hard.” Xander patted my shoulder softly, as if he were scared to give it a good knock as he would have before. I sighed internally. “I was talking about Lomac being here. I know that must sting.”
Oh. Right. Logan Mackie. Standing over there by my sliding glass door, drinking my beer, eating my food, joking with my friends, and playing my position. Also, why did he have to be so damned good-looking? Could he not have a few scars? He was a hockey player for fucks sake.
“Nah, it’s fine. I’m good with it. All part of the business, yeah? Good on him. Happy for him. Yep. Good on him.” I watched both men glance at each other than smile in unison at me. “I mean, yeah, of course it’s not easy but I’m fine. Good. Happy. Feeling great!”
“Good, good, glad you’re dealing with everything so well,” Marquis said before wiping his saucy fingers on a wet wipe. “Phillippe said you were having some trouble before, with depression, but I told the team that Dunny wouldn’t be down for long. You’re a force, my friend.”
“Yeah, a force for sure. You’ll be running circles around us before you know it!” Xander tossed out.
“Totally. Yeah. Circles.”

I love how he’s supposed to be having a serious conversation but is totally distracted by his thoughts of Cooper. Sounds like it’s a good time for him to be distracted. Great job!

It’s so interesting the way the images and thoughts are going through his mind while his teammate is talking to him. The ending image of him going in circles is excellent.

Wow, you really took us inside his head. And how he feels replaced and how he’s trying to focus and keep on the conversation. Great description – spare, but just enough to give us the idea about what’s going on. Great job!

Love it. All that going on in his head and still able to carry on a conversation. LOL

Great scene. You always convey what’s happening so well, and so naturally.

Well done. Love the way he drifts in and out of the conversation.
