He smiled so sinfully it was hard to breath. “This is a gift from me to you. I made a vow and I plan to stick to it.”
“Such a gallant man you’ve grown to be,” I said which got me a deep, regal bow from Nate. “I think a few days away from Clarice will do me good. I’d love to go to the Cotswolds with you.”
His smile put the new sun to shame. “Excellent! I’ll pull my old Austin Healey out from under its dust cover, get Mrs. Filcher to pack us a little nosh as she likes to call it, and see you in an hour? Can you throw together an overnight bag and shower in less than sixty minutes?”
I nodded, rose to my toes to kiss his scruffy cheek, and then dashed to the shower, slippers slapping, Nathan laughing like a loon behind me. I had no clue what an Austin Healey was.
Lord please do not let it be a motorcycle with one of those sidecar things. Amen.
Nor did I know what exactly the Cotswolds were or why they made Nate’s eyes sparkle when he spoke of them. Whatever they were and however we got there didn’t matter. All that mattered was how light I felt when he looked at me. I’d fallen for him all over again. Stalling out just inside the bathroom I placed my hand to my chest. My heart was thundering. Despite how I’d tried to keep him at a distance he’d won me over once more.

Lovely scene. I’d go to the Cotswolds in any kind of vehicle, too.

Love his ignorance about the Cotswolds and his devotion and trust in Nate. Such a lovely scene. I wish I was going with them.
