It’s time for Tuesday Tales!
Welcome back! This week is our picture prompt week, and all posts must reflect the chosen image. Our picture prompt posts have to reflect the chosen image and can be no longer than 300 words.
Do bear in mind that these snippets are unedited so please be kind if you find any mistakes.
This story may have gay erotic scenes, strong social issues addressed and mature language. If those things offend now is the time to move onto another Tuesday Tales blog. Thanks for stopping by!
Five hours later we were at a nicely air-conditioned, super expensive restaurant a few blocks from my dorms, toasting my successful graduation with flutes of flavored bubbly water. I’d ordered a cold beer when we’d sat down at the table Uncle Mike had reserved for the family, my throat dry from all the cheering at the end of commencement. That had been shot down faster than a video mallard in that old Duck Hunt game by my uncle. The Swedish one who was, it seemed, remarkably invested in my career.
“Beer is incredibly fattening, Liam,” Bryn had whispered to me as the others placed their drink orders. “You’ll be going into intensive training as soon as you return to Pittsburgh. Water is always the best choice for an athlete in training.”
I had nodded, because…yeah, he was right. But I kind of really liked beer and I was old enough to drink it legally now. Also, I had earned it. Four years of collegiate hockey and studying my ass off had gotten me here. Within reach of the pros. I could not go into training camp looking sloppy or overweight. But man, a nice cold beer…
“Bryn, let the kid drink what he wants,” Uncle Mike said, leaning up to speak around his husband. “One beer never hurt anyone.”
Bryn sighed in that way he does. It was his ‘I love my husband but he does not understand what it means to be an athlete’ which was true. Uncle Mike was no jock. He was a blogger and a web designer with a little bit of a belly who was more concerned about enjoying life. Whereas Uncle Bryn was the regimented one who worked out daily – at pro jock levels – even though he was now retired. They were different in so many aspects but they still loved each other madly. Same as Mom and Dad. I hoped that someday I’d find the kind of love they all had.
Thanks so much for dropping by!

Lovely scene, and while beer is fattening, I like it too. Great job.
Interesting contrast between the two, and so real!
One beer and then work out like a demon– offset that one sin and get back on track. LOL
I love the insight into Mike and Bryn. Totally understand the frustration with a spouse. Great job!
Nice snippet!
Love the back-and-forth between the athletes and non-athletes. Nice warm picture of caring family. Well done.
